Fight Features with Aaron Weissenfluh - Vol 1.1 The Greatest

Intro:
Yes,  I'm back at it again.  After years of straying away from the fight game, I'm back to my old tricks, offering up opinions, advice and controversy. I've been away from the sport of boxing & the art of fighting as a writer but have been highly involved as a fighter and trainer.  The goal of this blog is to get back to that which I love, writing.  While boxing has been slowly decaying in the US and mixed martial arts has been growing faster than Mayweather's list of charges, both boxing and MMA remain strong draws throughout Europe and Asia.

Sarcasm, wit and outright insults are what set us apart from other boxing/MMA magazines, blogs, postings and random musings, so here we go.

Serious Article of the Week:
A Case for the Greatest (of all time)
After last Saturday's destruction of rugged Antonio Margarito, I think it's time to start the process of crowning a new "Greatest of All Time."  Rather than beat up the dead horse that is Mayweather vs. Pacquaio, I thought it more relevant to compare the Greatest of All Time (until now) to the Greatest of All Time (now).

A Comparison of Greatest(s):
  • Emmanuel Dapidran Pacquiao has won eight titles in eight divisions, two of which are arguable as they were designated by a magazine.  Muhammed Ali won the heavyweight title three times in one weight division.
  • Ali has fought 550 combined rounds, Pacquiao has fought only 329 rounds to date.
  • Based on the rounds fought, Ali earned a KO every 14 rounds while Pacquiao earned a KO every 8 rounds.
  • Pacquaio has three losses (2 by KO), Ali five (1 by KO which was actually a merciful stoppage against Larry Holmes)
  • Pacquaio has become a politician and most likely the president of his home country in the near future.  Ali championed causes politically, socially and memorably.
  • Ali fought in 13 different countries, while Pacquaio has only fought in 4.
  • Ali - USA, UK, Canada, Germany, Switzerland, Japan, Ireland, Congo, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Puerto Rico and the Bahamas
  • Pacquaio - Philippines, Japan, Thailand and the USA
  • Ali was right handed with great hand speed from both hands.  Pacquaio is left handed with great hand speed from both hands.
  • While Pacquaio has been outweighed and shorter than his last 10 opponents, Ali was outweighed throughout most of his career but taller than most.
  • Ali fought everyone, twice.  Pacquaio has fought every notable champion in each weight class, well, except for one elusive future felon.
  • Ali called himself the greatest.  Pacquaio has not (at least publicly).
I believe it's time for my gym to take down the Fat Heads version of Ali and start putting up the Pacquaio posters.  The least they can do is clean up a spot on the dirty north wall for a larger than life sized Pacquaio cut out.

Dingbat of the Week:
I read that Mayweather has now been accused of pointing a man in the face.   First off this charge is nothing short of dumb.  What security guard would report that a small boxer pointed his finger in his face?  I sure wouldn't want him guarding my neighborhood school if he's bothered by the crooked finger of a not so scary looking boxer.  Mike Tyson, yeah.  Floyd Mayweather, not really.  I probably would've bit the finger off if given the chance.

While I'm not a big Mayweather fan, I picked him years ago when there was actually a chance of him fighting someone with two hands and a heart beat.  However, now that he's racking up charges faster than Mike Tyson at a beauty pageant, I'm thinking his days of freedom are numbered.  It wasn't that long ago when I saw Pretty Boy Floyd dancing around the ring complaining of hurt hands.  He nearly lost a fight to Emanuel Agustus (formerly Burton but changed his name because he kept getting his ass handed to him in a paper bag and called malt liquor) because of his dainty little hands. Larry Merchant occasionally got out of his drunken stupor to make fun of Floyd's child like hands of crushed velvet.

Why in the hell would Baby Hands Floyd risk losing a finger due to some car parking issues?  Better yet, why is "Money" forcing his visitors to park in the street?  If he were truly made of money, you'd think he'd build a Walmart sized parking lot with accompanying garage for his entourage.

Dingbat 1: The fearful finger pointed security guard
Dingbat 2: Floyd "Hands of Bruised Oatmeal" Mayweather

Boxing News:
Upcoming major matches to follow:
-Wale Omotoso vs. Juan Alberto Godoy (Victoria Australia) Friday Nov. 26 - While this is an untelevised fight on the other side of the world, how cool would it be to have a world champion by the name of Wale? I'll try for an interview in the weeks ahead.

-Matthew Hatton vs. Roberto Belge (Lancashire, UK) Friday Nov. 26 - The younger, uglier Hatton (if that's possible) is fighting an undefeated Roberto Belge.  Belge has 4 KOs to his name which makes him a man to be feared in some elementary schools.

-Andre Ward vs. Saiko Bika (Oakland, CA) Saturday Nov 27 - Bika lost his last fight by DQ because he hit his opponent while he was half conscious and laying on the ground.  Heed this warning former Olympian and world champion Andre Ward: "Don't lay on the ground and get hit...or maybe you should."

The fight I actually want to watch:
Andre Berto vs. Freddy Hernandez (Las Vegas-HBO) Saturday Nov 27 - I grew up with a kid named Freddy.  His parents were retarded which made him something of a bad ass as he was always defending his parents' honor.  I'm sure this Freddy guy is just as tough.  Berto is a strong fighter with a great future and a massive heart.
